About the Acholi language
Acholi is a Western Nilotic language of the Luo group, spoken mainly in northern Uganda in the area around Gulu and Kitgum known as Acholiland, and across the border in parts of South Sudan. Estimates put speaker numbers at around 1.5 million, though figures vary. It is closely related to Lango and Alur in Uganda and more distantly to Dholuo in Kenya, with a fair degree of mutual understanding among neighbouring Luo varieties.
