Behdini Language Services in the UK

About Our Behdini Services

Behdini is the variety of Kurdish spoken in and around Duhok governorate in the Kurdistan Region of northern Iraq, with related speech extending into neighbouring parts of Turkey and Syria. Linguists class it within Northern Kurdish, the Kurmanji group, though Behdini speakers often treat it as a spoken standard of its own. In Iraq it is usually written in an adapted Arabic script, while Kurmanji elsewhere tends to use the Latin alphabet. Kurdish holds official status in Iraq alongside Arabic, and Behdini is heard daily in local media, schools and administration across the Duhok area. Precise speaker figures are hard to pin down, but the variety is generally reckoned to have well over a million speakers.

Prism Linguistics provides Behdini translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
