Belorussian Language Services in the UK

About Our Belorussian Services

Belorussian is an older English name for Belarusian, an East Slavic language closely related to Russian and Ukrainian and written in the Cyrillic alphabet. It is an official language of Belarus alongside Russian, and smaller communities of speakers live in Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine and Russia. Everyday use inside Belarus is uneven: Russian dominates in most cities, and many Belarusians understand the language better than they speak it, so estimates of active speakers range widely, from a few million upwards. Two written norms exist, the official standard and an older classical orthography still preferred by some writers, and a mixed Belarusian-Russian speech known as trasianka is common informally. The alphabet includes a distinctive letter, u with a breve, marking a sound found in neither Russian nor Ukrainian.

Prism Linguistics provides Belorussian translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
