Face-to-face, phone or video in Durness
For short, urgent conversations in Durness (a GP receptionist call, a doorstep statement, an emergency department triage), telephone Berber interpreting is on demand and connects within minutes. For longer or more sensitive appointments (a contested hearing, a mental-health assessment, a customer meeting), face-to-face in Durness is worth the extra time it takes to confirm. Video works well when the parties are in different places but eye contact still matters.
How long it takes to confirm in Durness
Telephone Berber is on demand. Face-to-face appointments in Durness can usually be confirmed within a few hours. Less common Berber dialects benefit from a day or two's notice; that's normally enough to get you the strongest interpreter rather than the only available one.

Send us the date, the venue and the type of appointment. We come back with the interpreter and a price (usually within the hour during UK office hours), and once you confirm, the linguist works the assignment. Pay-as-you-go, monthly invoicing, or to a PO if your accounts team need that.

Berber interpreting in Durness: FAQs
How much does a Berber interpreter cost in Durness?
Cost depends on the language, the type of appointment, how long it is and how much notice you can give. There isn't a single hourly figure that's honest across NHS, legal and private work in Durness. Send the basics through the quote form and we'll come back with a price.
How do you pick the right interpreter for my Durness appointment?
We match on three things: subject experience (an NHS booking goes to a Berber interpreter who has worked in NHS settings, not just any interpreter), Berber dialect, and availability for your time and place in Durness. If you have a preferred linguist from a previous job, we'll try them first.
Can you cover urgent / same-day Berber requests in Durness?
Telephone Berber is on demand. For face-to-face in Durness, same-day is often possible for the more common languages; for less common dialects, give us a day's notice if you can and we'll get you the right person.

About Durness
Durness is a remote village on the north-west coast of the Highlands, in Sutherland, around 120 miles from Inverness and part of the most sparsely populated region in western Europe. Fewer than four hundred people live here, and there is no court, hospital or university anywhere near. Formal matters are handled at a distance, through the Highland sheriff courts and NHS Highland, whose main hospital, Raigmore, is in Inverness. Most of the work that reaches us from here is done by telephone, video or post. Durness was a predominantly Gaelic-speaking area within living memory, and Scottish Gaelic still carries local significance across Sutherland. When another language is needed it usually arrives with a visitor or a seasonal worker, and it tends to be one of the rarer languages other agencies cannot easily supply.

About the Berber language
Berber, or Tamazight, is the indigenous language family of North Africa, spoken mainly in Morocco and Algeria. In the UK its speakers are part of the wider North African community, with Moroccan-heritage families the largest group, many of them long settled in London. Because Berber is often a spoken home language rather than a written one, the documents we handle for Berber-speaking clients are usually in Arabic or French, and our Berber work is mainly interpreting: NHS appointments, court and asylum tribunal hearings, and Home Office interviews where someone is more comfortable in Tamazight than Arabic. Berber has roughly 18 million speakers across Morocco, Algeria and neighbouring countries.
