Cherokee Language Services in the UK

About Our Cherokee Services

Cherokee is an Iroquoian language, the only surviving member of the family's southern branch. It is spoken by members of the Cherokee Nation and the United Keetoowah Band in Oklahoma and by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina. The language is written in a syllabary of around 85 characters devised by Sequoyah in the early nineteenth century, one of the few writing systems in history created by a single person for a previously unwritten language. Cherokee is severely endangered: first-language speakers are now estimated in the low thousands, most of them older adults. Tribal immersion schools, university courses and online resources are central to current revitalisation work, and the syllabary is supported in modern computing standards.

Prism Linguistics provides Cherokee translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
