Chichewa, also known as Chewa or Nyanja, is the main language of Malawi and is also spoken in eastern Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The Malawian community in the UK is small, spread across London and other English cities rather than forming a single cluster, so Chichewa turns up less often than the larger African languages. When it does, the work is mostly civil documents such as birth, marriage and death certificates for Home Office and UKVI settlement and citizenship applications, academic transcripts assessed by UK ENIC for universities and professional registration, and occasional asylum or tribunal papers.
