Chichewa Language Services in the UK

About Our Chichewa Services

Chichewa, also called Chewa or Nyanja, is a Bantu language and the national language of Malawi, where it sits alongside English in schools, broadcasting and public life. It is also spoken in eastern Zambia, where it usually goes by the name Nyanja, and in parts of Mozambique and Zimbabwe. Counting second-language users, well over 10 million people speak it. Chichewa is written in the Latin alphabet, and like other Bantu languages it builds words from a system of noun classes and agreeing prefixes. Malawian radio and newspapers publish in both Chichewa and English, so most Malawians grow up moving between the two. The Zambian variety and the Malawian standard differ somewhat in vocabulary and spelling conventions, which matters when written material crosses the border.

Prism Linguistics provides Chichewa translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
