Dari is the Afghan variety of Persian and, with Pashto, one of Afghanistan's two official languages; it is mutually intelligible with the Persian of Iran and shares its Perso-Arabic script. The Afghan community in the UK numbers well over 80,000 by birth, concentrated in Greater London, in boroughs such as Ealing and Hounslow, and in the West Midlands around Birmingham and Coventry, with numbers swelled by the resettlement schemes that followed 2021. Much of our Dari work is asylum and immigration-tribunal documentation and Home Office and UKVI casework, together with identity papers, court records and educational certificates evaluated by UK ENIC. Counting first and second-language speakers, Dari is used by around 33 million people.
