Edo Language Services in the UK

About Our Edo Services

Edo, also called Bini, is the language of the Edo people of southern Nigeria, centred on Benin City in Edo State. It belongs to the Edoid group within the Niger-Congo family and was the court language of the historic Kingdom of Benin, famed for its bronzes. The language is tonal and is written in the Latin alphabet, though English dominates schooling and official life in Nigeria. Speaker estimates are imprecise, as with many Nigerian languages, but figures of between one and two million are commonly cited. Edo is used in local radio and in cultural and ceremonial life around Benin City, and it sits alongside related Edoid languages such as Esan and Urhobo in the wider region.

Prism Linguistics provides Edo translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
