Face-to-face, phone or video in Alston
For short, urgent conversations in Alston (a GP receptionist call, a doorstep statement, an emergency department triage), telephone Gaelic interpreting is on demand and connects within minutes. For longer or more sensitive appointments (a contested hearing, a mental-health assessment, a customer meeting), face-to-face in Alston is worth the extra time it takes to confirm. Video works well when the parties are in different places but eye contact still matters.
How long it takes to confirm in Alston
Telephone Gaelic is on demand. Face-to-face appointments in Alston can usually be confirmed within a few hours. Less common Gaelic dialects benefit from a day or two's notice; that's normally enough to get you the strongest interpreter rather than the only available one.
How to book or hire a Gaelic interpreter in Alston
Send us the date, the venue and the type of appointment. We come back with the interpreter and a price (usually within the hour during UK office hours), and once you confirm, the linguist works the assignment. Pay-as-you-go, monthly invoicing, or to a PO if your accounts team need that.

Gaelic interpreting in Alston: FAQs
How much does a Gaelic interpreter cost in Alston?
Cost depends on the language, the type of appointment, how long it is and how much notice you can give. There isn't a single hourly figure that's honest across NHS, legal and private work in Alston. Send the basics through the quote form and we'll come back with a price.
How do you pick the right interpreter for my Alston appointment?
We match on three things: subject experience (an NHS booking goes to a Gaelic interpreter who has worked in NHS settings, not just any interpreter), Gaelic dialect, and availability for your time and place in Alston. If you have a preferred linguist from a previous job, we'll try them first.
Can you cover urgent / same-day Gaelic requests in Alston?
Telephone Gaelic is on demand. For face-to-face in Alston, same-day is often possible for the more common languages; for less common dialects, give us a day's notice if you can and we'll get you the right person.

About the Gaelic language
Scottish Gaelic belongs to the Goidelic branch of the Celtic languages, alongside Irish and Manx. It is written in the Latin alphabet and spoken mainly in Scotland, with its strongest communities in the Outer Hebrides and parts of the Highlands. Around 60,000 people in Scotland report being able to speak it, and the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 gave it formal recognition, supporting Gaelic-medium education and the BBC Alba television channel. A small community descended from nineteenth-century emigrants still speaks Canadian Gaelic in Nova Scotia. The language descends from the Middle Irish once shared across Ireland and Scotland, and it remains close enough to modern Irish that speakers recognise a good deal of each other's vocabulary. Road signs across much of Scotland now carry Gaelic place names alongside English.
