Georgian Language Services in the UK

About Our Georgian Services

Georgian is the official language of Georgia and the largest member of the Kartvelian family, a group unrelated to Indo-European or Turkic. It is written in its own alphabet, Mkhedruli, which has 33 letters and no distinction between upper and lower case; two older scripts, Asomtavruli and Nuskhuri, survive in church use. Around four million people speak Georgian, most of them in Georgia itself, with smaller communities in Turkey, Russia and Iran. The written tradition reaches back to the fifth century, and the twelfth-century epic The Knight in the Panther's Skin remains its best-known work. Georgian is known among linguists for its dense consonant clusters and for a verb system that packs subject, object and direction into a single word. Regional dialects include Kartlian, spoken around Tbilisi, and Kakhetian in the east.

Prism Linguistics provides Georgian translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
