German Language Services in the UK

About Our German Services

Around 95 million people speak German as a first language, making it the most widely spoken mother tongue in the European Union. A West Germanic language, it is official in Germany and Austria, one of Switzerland's four national languages, and also holds official status in Liechtenstein, Luxembourg and Belgium's German-speaking east. Written German uses the Latin alphabet with three umlauted vowels and the eszett character. The standard language, often called Hochdeutsch, sits above a wide spread of regional dialects, from Bavarian and Swabian in the south to Low German varieties near the North Sea, while Swiss German differs enough from the standard that many Germans struggle to follow it. German nouns take one of three genders and four cases, and the language famously allows long compound words built from several nouns joined together.

Prism Linguistics provides German translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
