Hakka China Language Services in the UK

About Our Hakka China Services

Within mainland China, Hakka is spoken by tens of millions of people scattered across the south, a pattern that reflects the historical migrations of the Hakka people from the north over many centuries. The heartland is eastern Guangdong province, around the city of Meizhou, whose Meixian dialect is generally treated as the prestige variety. Substantial Hakka-speaking populations also live in Fujian, Jiangxi and Guangxi, with smaller pockets in Sichuan and Hunan left by later resettlement. Hakka is a Sinitic language, tonal like its relatives, and is written using Chinese characters, though it is not mutually intelligible with Mandarin or Cantonese. Because Hakka communities live interspersed among speakers of other Chinese varieties, most speakers in China are bilingual, using Mandarin in school and public life and Hakka at home.

Prism Linguistics provides Hakka China translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
