Hassaniyya is the Arabic variety of the western Sahara, spoken across Mauritania, Western Sahara, southern Morocco, and parts of Mali, Senegal and Algeria. The Hassaniyya-speaking community in the UK is very small; speakers here form part of the broader Arabic-speaking and North African diaspora rather than a settled cluster. Our Hassaniyya work is limited and tends to be occasional asylum and immigration documentation for the Home Office and the tribunals, civil certificates such as birth and marriage records for settlement applications, and academic records assessed by UK ENIC for credential evaluation. Where a hearing or NHS appointment calls for it, an interpreter can be arranged. Around 5.6 million people speak Hassaniyya across north-west Africa.
