Hunanese, known to linguists as Xiang, is one of the major groups of Chinese varieties, spoken mainly in Hunan province and adjoining areas of southern China. Britain's Chinese community is large but overwhelmingly Cantonese and Mandarin-speaking, so Hunanese speakers are a small part of it, and standard written Chinese covers their documents in any case.
