Indonesian Language Services in the UK

About Our Indonesian Services

Indonesian is the official language of Indonesia and a standardised form of Malay, an Austronesian language long used as a trading lingua franca across the archipelago. Adopted as the national language when independence was declared in 1945, it now serves a population of around 270 million, though for most Indonesians it sits alongside one of the country's several hundred regional languages, such as Javanese or Sundanese, learned at home. Written in the Latin alphabet with a fairly consistent spelling system, Indonesian has absorbed loanwords from Sanskrit, Arabic, Dutch and English. It remains very close to Malaysian Malay, and speakers of the two understand each other with little trouble. The language dominates education, government, national media and everyday communication between Indonesia's many ethnic groups.

Prism Linguistics provides Indonesian translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
