Irish Language Services in the UK

About Our Irish Services

Irish is a Goidelic Celtic language, closely related to Scottish Gaelic and Manx. It is the first official language of the Republic of Ireland, holds official status in Northern Ireland, and has been a full official language of the European Union since 2007. Census figures record well over a million people in Ireland with some ability in Irish, though the number who speak it daily outside the education system is far smaller, generally estimated in the low tens of thousands. The strongest speaking communities are in the Gaeltacht districts of Donegal, Connemara and Kerry, corresponding broadly to the three main dialects: Ulster, Connacht and Munster. Irish is written in the Latin alphabet and has one of the oldest vernacular literatures in western Europe.

Prism Linguistics provides Irish translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
