Face-to-face, phone or video in London

For short, urgent conversations in London (a GP receptionist call, a doorstep statement, an emergency department triage), telephone Jola interpreting is on demand and connects within minutes. For longer or more sensitive appointments (a contested hearing, a mental-health assessment, a customer meeting), face-to-face in London is worth the extra time it takes to confirm. Video works well when the parties are in different places but eye contact still matters.

How long it takes to confirm in London

Telephone Jola is on demand. Face-to-face appointments in London can usually be confirmed within a few hours. Less common Jola dialects benefit from a day or two's notice; that's normally enough to get you the strongest interpreter rather than the only available one.

How to book or hire a Jola interpreter in London

Send us the date, the venue and the type of appointment. We come back with the interpreter and a price (usually within the hour during UK office hours), and once you confirm, the linguist works the assignment. Pay-as-you-go, monthly invoicing, or to a PO if your accounts team need that.

Jola interpreting in London: FAQs

How much does a Jola interpreter cost in London?

Cost depends on the language, the type of appointment, how long it is and how much notice you can give. There isn't a single hourly figure that's honest across NHS, legal and private work in London. Send the basics through the quote form and we'll come back with a price.

How do you pick the right interpreter for my London appointment?

We match on three things: subject experience (an NHS booking goes to a Jola interpreter who has worked in NHS settings, not just any interpreter), Jola dialect, and availability for your time and place in London. If you have a preferred linguist from a previous job, we'll try them first.

Can you cover urgent / same-day Jola requests in London?

Telephone Jola is on demand. For face-to-face in London, same-day is often possible for the more common languages; for less common dialects, give us a day's notice if you can and we'll get you the right person.

About London

London is the UK capital and one of the most linguistically diverse cities in the world, with hundreds of languages spoken across its boroughs every day. At that scale, language support is woven into how countless organisations operate. Solicitors and legal firms across the city need certified translations for immigration, family and commercial matters. GP surgeries, health centres and clinics book interpreters so patients from every background can be understood, and council services along with local authorities support residents in dozens of languages. Schools and colleges work with multilingual families, and local businesses, from small firms to larger employers, need documents translated for customers and partners around the world. Prism Linguistics provides certified document translation, face-to-face interpreting, and telephone and video interpreting in more than 300 languages. Each assignment is handled by a qualified native-speaker linguist and then reviewed by a second linguist, so accuracy is checked before delivery. All work is confidential and compliant with UK GDPR. We cover every part of London, arranging linguists on site or remotely to suit the setting.

About the Jola language

Jola, also written Diola, reaches Britain through the Gambian and Senegalese communities, with around 36,000 Gambia-born residents in the UK forming the larger part. It is a West African language of the Casamance region, and because it is mainly spoken rather than written, our Jola work is usually interpreting: supporting Home Office interviews, asylum and immigration tribunal hearings, and NHS or court appointments where a speaker is most at ease in their first language. Any accompanying documents are typically issued in French or English. The most widely used variety, Jola-Fonyi, has close to half a million speakers across Senegal and the Gambia, with more using the other Jola dialects.
