About the Kanjobal language
Q'anjob'al, often written Kanjobal, is a Mayan language of the Guatemalan highlands, spoken mainly in the Huehuetenango department and by emigrant communities, most of them in the United States rather than Britain. There is no settled Kanjobal community in the UK, so the little work that arises is usually tied to asylum or immigration: a statement or identity document for a Home Office or UKVI case, or interpreting arranged for a single hearing, often for someone who speaks limited Spanish. Because it is largely an oral language, interpreting outweighs translation. Around 180,000 people speak Q'anjob'al, the great majority in Guatemala with a smaller number in Mexico.
