Kapingamarangi is a Polynesian outlier language of the Austronesian family, spoken on a remote atoll in the Federated States of Micronesia and in a settled community on the island of Pohnpei. It has essentially no community in Britain, so requests are rare and one-off rather than regular. When Kapingamarangi does come up, our work is limited to occasional asylum and immigration documentation for the Home Office and the tribunals and the odd civil certificate or academic record, with transcripts evaluated by UK ENIC where a qualification needs to be recognised for study or work. Kapingamarangi has only around 3,000 speakers worldwide, which makes it one of the smaller Polynesian languages still in daily use.
