Kikongo Language Services in the UK

About Our Kikongo Services

Kikongo, also known as Kongo, is a Bantu language spoken in the western Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Republic of the Congo and northern Angola, the area once covered by the historical Kongo kingdom. Several million people speak Kikongo varieties, which differ noticeably from region to region. A simplified contact variety, Kituba, sometimes called Kikongo ya leta, grew out of Kikongo and is recognised as a national language in both Congos, where it serves as a lingua franca alongside Lingala and French. Kikongo has one of the longest written records of any Bantu language: missionary texts date from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, including an early catechism and dictionary. The language is written in the Latin alphabet.

Prism Linguistics provides Kikongo translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
