Kurdish Interpreting Services in Bramhall
Iran was the third most common nationality claiming asylum in the UK in the year ending September 2024, with 7,895 people. In the year to June 2024 Iranians were 13 per cent of small boat arrivals, second only to Afghans, and Iraqis were the third largest group detected after arriving inside the UK. The tables count passports, not ethnicity, so they cannot say how many are Kurds. They do trace the route by which much of our Kurdish interpreting in Bramhall begins: a claim, an interview, an appeal, a GP registration in between.
At the 2021 Census, 66,443 usual residents of England and Wales gave Kurdish as their main language. That community arrived in layers. Kurds from Iraq and Iran came as refugees from the late 1980s, after Halabja and the Anfal campaign; Kurds from Turkey followed in the 1990s as fighting in the south-east of that country grew worse; Syrian Kurds came later. Each layer brought its own variety of Kurdish, and that shapes a booking more than almost anything else.
Every one of our Kurdish interpreters is professionally qualified and background-checked; for settings that need Enhanced DBS clearance, we send interpreters who hold it. We cover Sorani and Kurmanji, working Kurdish into English and English into Kurdish, consecutively in nearly every case.
Bramhall Kurdish Interpreters
Sorani and Kurmanji interpreters are two separate pools, and neither is spread evenly across Britain. For an in-person booking in Bramhall we look first for someone living nearby who speaks the right variety, and if the closest match has further to travel, we say so at quote stage. For telephone and video the whole national register is open to us.
The person who needs the interpreter has often only just arrived, like a woman from rural Iran or Iraq who grew up speaking Kurdish and has little Persian or Arabic to fall back on. Don't assume a Kurd will manage in the official language on their passport. Some will. Plenty won't, and for anything later relied on as evidence, near enough is not good enough.
Court Qualified Kurdish Interpreters in Bramhall
Most Kurdish court work is asylum appeals before the First-tier Tribunal, though we also supply court-experienced Kurdish interpreters to the Magistrates' and Crown Courts, the Family Court and the County Court. In one published Upper Tribunal decision, an appellant who had asked for a Badini interpreter was given one who spoke a different Kurdish variety; the hearing stalled, and the decision that followed was set aside as unfair and sent back to be reheard with a Badini interpreter. Months lost, for want of one line on a form.
So along with the court, the hearing and the listing time, tell us which variety the appellant or witness speaks, and we will name the interpreter in advance. Anyone may check an interpreter's standing by asking about the DPSI, or whether they are on the NRPSI register. Prism Linguistics is a private language-services provider and does not present itself as a court-appointed supplier.
Kurdish NHS and Medical Interpreters in Bramhall
Kurdish NHS requests split two ways. There are the routine appointments that follow any new arrival, and then there is mental health, where some patients have lived through conflict, detention or a dangerous sea crossing and a psychological assessment depends on distress being carried across exactly as spoken. We provide Kurdish medical interpreters in Bramhall for:
- GP registration, new patient checks and practice nurse clinics
- antenatal booking, scans, labour and postnatal visits
- psychological therapies, trauma services and psychiatric reviews
- hospital outpatients, pre-operative assessments and discharge meetings
- health visitor and school nurse appointments for children
Across a course of therapy we try to keep the same interpreter, because a patient retelling their story to a new face each week tends to say less.
Kurdish Interpreter for Home Office and Immigration Appointments
Kurdish immigration work is mostly asylum for us: preparation for Home Office screening and substantive interviews, statement-taking with immigration solicitors, medico-legal report appointments, reporting events and First-tier Tribunal appeals. The Home Office's own interview guidance tells caseworkers to suspend an interview where claimant and interpreter clearly cannot understand each other. Roughly, most Kurds from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and many from Iran speak Sorani, while Kurds from Turkey and Syria, and Badini speakers from the Duhok area, speak Kurmanji. Once a client has named a variety at screening, keep to it at every later stage so the record stays consistent.
Kurdish Interpreters for Police, Councils and Public Services
Officers book us for interviews under caution, custody and victim or witness statements, including accounts from people exploited by smugglers on the way to the UK. Councils book us for homelessness interviews, age assessments of young people who arrived alone, school admissions and social care, while asylum support teams mostly need short practical phone calls. Tell us the clearance a setting demands and we will only offer interpreters who hold it.
Face-to-Face Kurdish Interpreter in Bramhall
Being physically present matters most at an asylum appeal, a psychiatric assessment, a child protection conference or a long afternoon going through a witness statement line by line. Tone and hesitation carry a lot there. We send a Kurdish interpreter in the right variety to your address in Bramhall, briefed on the appointment. Cover for each variety differs by region, so booking a few days ahead widens our options.
Telephone and Video Kurdish Interpreting
Most short Kurdish conversations, a GP receptionist booking a follow-up or a housing officer checking an address, are done by telephone interpreting, with a Sorani or Kurmanji interpreter on the line in minutes. Video interpreting suits remote tribunal links and therapy, and means the right variety is available even when nobody who speaks it lives near Bramhall.
How Much Does a Kurdish Interpreter Cost in Bramhall?
We price Kurdish interpreting booking by booking, not from a published rate card. Duration matters, as does in person versus remote, travel to Bramhall, notice, and the kind of work: a tribunal hearing is not priced like a routine clinic. Send those details through our quote form and you will receive a fixed price, normally within the hour during UK office hours. Nothing is booked until you accept it.
How to Book a Kurdish Interpreter in Bramhall
- Give us the appointment and the variety. Date, time, where it is (or the video link), how long and why. Then Sorani or Kurmanji, and mention it if the person speaks Badini or a Southern Kurdish variety such as Feyli. Not sure? The country and region they come from usually tells us.
- We come back with a price and a name. A fixed quote, confirmation that an interpreter in that variety is free and, for in-person work, who we plan to send.
- Book it. We brief the interpreter. Individuals pay by card; solicitors' firms, NHS services and councils may prefer a monthly invoice or a purchase order.

Prism's certified Kurdish translation includes an accuracy statement, signed, on Prism letterhead, and HMCTS, UK universities, the Home Office, UKVI and HM Passport Office accept it.
Kurdish Interpreter Bramhall FAQs
How quickly can you provide a Kurdish interpreter in Bramhall?
Over the phone or by video, usually within the hour in either Sorani or Kurmanji. For attendance in Bramhall, next working day is often possible, and a few days of notice gives you a genuine choice of interpreter in the variety you need.
Are your Kurdish interpreters qualified for court and tribunal work?
Kurdish hearings go to interpreters with tribunal experience, most of it built up in asylum appeals. Feel free to ask the interpreter about a DPSI or NRPSI registration. Prism Linguistics is a private agency; no court has appointed us.
Do you provide Kurdish interpreters for NHS appointments in Bramhall?
We do, and often. GP surgeries, maternity units, hospital clinics and mental health teams book Kurdish interpreters through us, in person or remotely, on invoice. Relatives can also book for a family member who is new to the UK.
Can I book a same-day Kurdish interpreter?
By telephone or video, nearly always. Someone attending today rests on the variety, the appointment time and who is free near Bramhall, so ring as early as you can.
Can I request a female Kurdish interpreter?
Yes. It is common for maternity care, domestic abuse statements and asylum accounts involving sexual violence, and Home Office interview guidance tells caseworkers to make every effort to meet a request for a male or female interpreter. Say so when booking and we confirm a female Kurdish interpreter in the right variety first.
Should I book a Sorani or a Kurmanji interpreter?
Ask the person, or go by where they come from. Kurds from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and from Iran mostly speak Sorani; those from Turkey, Syria and the Badini-speaking Duhok area generally speak Kurmanji. Small talk may get by across the two, but an asylum interview or a hearing will not. If in doubt, a short call with an interpreter settles it.

About the Kurdish Language
Kurdish is a Northwestern Iranian language, related to Persian but distinct from it, spoken by Kurds across Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria. Its main varieties are Kurmanji (Northern Kurdish), Sorani (Central Kurdish) and Southern Kurdish, which takes in Feyli. Kurmanji is usually written in the Latin-based Hawar alphabet; Sorani uses an alphabet adapted from Arabic script. The two differ in grammar as well as vocabulary, which is why one cannot stand in for the other. For an interpreter in Bramhall, the variety spoken at home settles the booking.
