Lithuanian Language Services in the UK

About Our Lithuanian Services

Lithuanian is one of two surviving Baltic languages, the other being Latvian, and is the official language of Lithuania and an official language of the European Union. It has around three million speakers. Linguists prize Lithuanian for its conservatism: it preserves features of early Indo-European, including a complex case system and a pitch accent, that most related languages lost long ago, which makes it a fixture of historical linguistics courses. The two main dialect groups are Aukstaitian, the basis of the standard language, and Samogitian, spoken in the west and different enough that some regard it as a separate language. Lithuanian is written in the Latin alphabet with additional accented letters. The UK has a sizeable Lithuanian community, which grew quickly after Lithuania joined the EU in 2004.

Prism Linguistics provides Lithuanian translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
