Face-to-face, phone or video in Exeter

For short, urgent conversations in Exeter (a GP receptionist call, a doorstep statement, an emergency department triage), telephone Maltese interpreting is on demand and connects within minutes. For longer or more sensitive appointments (a contested hearing, a mental-health assessment, a customer meeting), face-to-face in Exeter is worth the extra time it takes to confirm. Video works well when the parties are in different places but eye contact still matters.

How long it takes to confirm in Exeter

Telephone Maltese is on demand. Face-to-face appointments in Exeter can usually be confirmed within a few hours. Less common Maltese dialects benefit from a day or two's notice; that's normally enough to get you the strongest interpreter rather than the only available one.

How to book or hire a Maltese interpreter in Exeter

Send us the date, the venue and the type of appointment. We come back with the interpreter and a price (usually within the hour during UK office hours), and once you confirm, the linguist works the assignment. Pay-as-you-go, monthly invoicing, or to a PO if your accounts team need that.

English to Maltese interpreter (and the other way round) in Exeter

Our Maltese interpreters in Exeter work in both directions, consecutively (most appointments) or simultaneously where the setting calls for it. For events with equipment requirements, such as booths and headsets, let us know at quote stage so we can scope the kit and the interpreter team size correctly.

Need a Maltese translator in Exeter instead?

If the work is written documents rather than spoken conversation, see our Maltese translator in Exeter page. Document translation is handled by email regardless of where you are, so we deliver the same way whether you're in Exeter or elsewhere in the UK.

Maltese interpreting in Exeter: FAQs

How much does a Maltese interpreter cost in Exeter?

Cost depends on the language, the type of appointment, how long it is and how much notice you can give. There isn't a single hourly figure that's honest across NHS, legal and private work in Exeter. Send the basics through the quote form and we'll come back with a price.

How do you pick the right interpreter for my Exeter appointment?

We match on three things: subject experience (an NHS booking goes to a Maltese interpreter who has worked in NHS settings, not just any interpreter), Maltese dialect, and availability for your time and place in Exeter. If you have a preferred linguist from a previous job, we'll try them first.

Can you cover urgent / same-day Maltese requests in Exeter?

Telephone Maltese is on demand. For face-to-face in Exeter, same-day is often possible for the more common languages; for less common dialects, give us a day's notice if you can and we'll get you the right person.

About Exeter

Exeter is the county town of Devon, run under a two-tier arrangement with Devon County Council above the city council. Much of the work that reaches us here comes through its courts, its hospital and its university. Exeter has a Crown Court, housed in the combined court centre alongside the county court, with a magistrates' court handling first hearings and summary cases. The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust runs the main hospital, and the University of Exeter brings in students and staff from around the world. Together they generate regular demand for interpreters and certified translation. Exeter is less mixed than the larger cities, but the university and the NHS still bring a real spread of languages. Chinese and Arabic come up through the student population, alongside European languages such as Polish and Portuguese. We are also asked for the rarer languages that a single clinic appointment or court hearing can depend on, and those are usually the requests that other agencies struggle to supply.

About the Maltese language

Maltese has one of the longest-settled communities of any of our languages in the UK, going back to dockyard families in Cardiff, Chatham and Portsmouth and growing strongly after the Second World War. The 2021 census recorded around 26,000 Malta-born residents, with the main concentrations in London, Cardiff and Manchester. Because Malta is bilingual and much of its paperwork is in English, our Maltese work is modest but steady: birth, marriage and death certificates and other civil documents for Home Office and citizenship purposes, the odd court or academic record, and occasional interpreting. Maltese has around 530,000 speakers, most in Malta with a sizeable diaspora in Australia and Britain.
