About Bodmin
Bodmin sits in mid Cornwall and comes under Cornwall Council, the unitary authority for the county. It was once the county town and still has Bodmin Hospital, but the main courts moved away years ago, and the nearest Crown Court now sits in Truro. About the Manx language
Manx is a Goidelic Celtic language native to the Isle of Man, close kin to Irish and Scottish Gaelic. Its last native speaker, Ned Maddrell, died in 1974, but a determined revival has brought it back: the 2021 census recorded 2,223 people with some Manx, there is a Manx-medium primary school, and the language is taught in island schools and recognised under the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. Our Manx work is a matter of heritage rather than immigration, things like personal and family records, cultural and educational material, and official or ceremonial text where an accurate English rendering is wanted. Manx is spoken today by a couple of thousand people, all as a revived second language.
