Masai Language Services in the UK

About Our Masai Services

Masai, known to its speakers as Maa, is the language of the Maasai people of southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. It belongs to the Eastern Nilotic group within the Nilo-Saharan family, which sets it apart from the Bantu languages spoken by most of its neighbours. Speaker estimates centre on around a million people, and closely related varieties are spoken by the Samburu of central Kenya. Maa is above all a spoken language, tied to the pastoral life of Maasai communities, though it is written in the Latin alphabet where needed, including in Bible translations and schoolbooks. Most speakers are multilingual, using Swahili and often English alongside Maa in trade, schooling and town life.

Prism Linguistics provides Masai translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
