Mien, or Iu Mien, is a Hmong-Mien language spoken by the Iu Mien people across southern China, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand, with large resettled communities in the United States. It has almost no presence in the United Kingdom, so genuine Mien requests are very rare, and speakers who do live here tend to manage in English or another regional language. Any work that came up would most likely be a personal document for an immigration or asylum case, or an academic record. Mien is a tonal language with roughly 800,000 speakers worldwide, the largest numbers in China.
