Norwegian Language Services in the UK

About Our Norwegian Services

Norwegian is a North Germanic language spoken by around five million people in Norway. Unusually, it has two official written standards: Bokmal, used by the large majority and shaped by centuries of Danish rule, and Nynorsk, constructed in the nineteenth century from rural dialects. Every Norwegian learns both at school, and public bodies must use each. There is no single standard spoken form; Norwegians use their local dialect in almost every setting, including national broadcasting, and dialect differences are a matter of everyday interest rather than stigma. The language is close to Danish and Swedish, and speakers of the three can generally converse, each keeping to their own language. Norwegian is written in the Latin alphabet with three additional vowel letters at the end.

Prism Linguistics provides Norwegian translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
