Nukuoro is a Polynesian language spoken on Nukuoro Atoll in the Federated States of Micronesia. Although the atoll lies deep in Micronesia, the language is what linguists call a Polynesian outlier: its ancestors were Polynesian voyagers who settled far west of the Polynesian triangle, and it remains related to Samoan and to Kapingamarangi, the language of a neighbouring outlier atoll. Speaker numbers are small, generally put at somewhere over a thousand, including Nukuoro people living on Pohnpei and in the United States; the atoll itself has only a few hundred residents. Nukuoro is written in the Latin alphabet, and Bible translation has provided much of its written material. English serves as the official language of the Federated States of Micronesia, so most speakers know some English too.
Prism Linguistics provides Nukuoro translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
