Oromo Language Services in the UK

About Our Oromo Services

Oromo is a Cushitic language of the Afroasiatic family and one of the most widely spoken languages in Africa, with estimates in the region of 40 million speakers. Most live in Ethiopia, where Oromo is the working language of the Oromia regional state and has in recent years been adopted as an additional federal working language; it is also spoken in northern Kenya and by communities in Somalia. Since 1991 the language has been written in a Latin-based alphabet known as Qubee, replacing earlier use of the Ge'ez script. Major dialect groupings include Borana in the south along with western and eastern varieties within Ethiopia; the differences are real but the varieties are broadly mutually intelligible. Oromo has a strong oral tradition, and publishing and broadcasting in the language have grown markedly since the 1990s.

Prism Linguistics provides Oromo translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
