About the Pitcairnese language
Pitcairnese, or Pitkern, is an English-Tahitian creole that grew up on Pitcairn Island after the Bounty mutineers and their Tahitian companions settled there in 1789, and it survives today on Pitcairn and on Norfolk Island. It is critically endangered, and there is no community of its speakers in Britain, so requests are effectively nil. Pitcairn is a British Overseas Territory, so what little work touches the language tends to be the odd civil or official document connected to that status, handled as occasional Home Office or administrative paperwork rather than any regular stream. Pitcairnese has only a few hundred speakers in total, which makes it one of the rarest languages we are ever asked about.
