Pohnpeian Language Services in the UK

About Our Pohnpeian Services

Pohnpeian is a Micronesian language of the Austronesian family, spoken on the island of Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia, where it is used alongside English in local government and daily life. Speaker numbers are around 30,000, including communities elsewhere in Micronesia, in Guam and in the United States. Pohnpeian is notable for its system of honorific speech: distinct vocabulary is used when speaking to or about people of high traditional rank, a feature tied to the island's chiefly titles. The language is written in the Latin alphabet, with an orthography settled in the twentieth century. It is related to other Micronesian languages such as Chuukese and Kosraean, though not closely enough for mutual understanding, and English serves as the federation's common language.

Prism Linguistics provides Pohnpeian translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
