The Romani, or Roma, presence in Britain has two strands: long-settled Romany Gypsy and Traveller families, many of whom speak Angloromani, an English shaped by Romani vocabulary, and more recent Roma migrants from central and eastern Europe who arrived largely after 2004 and often speak fuller Romani dialects. Estimates put the combined population in the region of 200,000.
