Sara is a group of closely related Central Sudanic languages spoken across southern Chad and into the north of the Central African Republic, Ngambay being the largest variety. Speakers in Britain are few, part of a small Chadian and central African community without a clear geographic centre. What work there is tends to be tied to asylum and immigration: personal statements and civil documents for Home Office and UKVI cases, tribunal papers, and interpreting for solicitors, often alongside French, which many speakers also use. The Sara languages together have about two million speakers in Chad and neighbouring areas.
