Sichuanese is the form of Mandarin spoken in Sichuan province and Chongqing in south-west China, distinct enough from standard Mandarin to be hard for other Mandarin speakers to follow. Within Britain's large Chinese community there is no separate Sichuanese cluster, and speakers here generally use standard Mandarin for official purposes, so we are rarely asked for Sichuanese specifically. Our China-related work, civil certificates, Home Office settlement and study documents, and transcripts for UK ENIC, is normally handled in standard Mandarin Chinese, with Sichuanese covered as a spoken variety for interpreting when a particular speaker needs it. Sichuanese is spoken by about 120 million people in south-west China.
