Sindebele Language Services in the UK

About Our Sindebele Services

SiNdebele refers to two related Nguni Bantu languages of southern Africa, both written in the Latin alphabet and both featuring the click consonants typical of the Nguni group. Northern Ndebele, or isiNdebele, is spoken by around 2 million people in Zimbabwe, chiefly in Matabeleland around Bulawayo; it descends from the speech of Nguni groups who moved north from the Zulu kingdom in the nineteenth century, so it stays close to Zulu. Southern Ndebele is a distinct language of South Africa, one of that country's official languages, spoken by roughly 1 million people mainly in Mpumalanga and Gauteng. The two are not simply dialects of each other. The UK's Zimbabwean community includes a good number of Ndebele speakers.

Prism Linguistics provides Sindebele translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
