Soninke Language Services in the UK

About Our Soninke Services

Soninke is a Mande language of the western Sahel, spoken mainly in Mali and along the Senegal River valley in Senegal and Mauritania, with communities in The Gambia and elsewhere in the region. Estimates commonly put speaker numbers at around two million. The Soninke are heirs to the medieval Ghana Empire, known in their own traditions as Wagadu, and the language preserves a deep oral historical tradition. Centuries of trade and more recent labour migration have scattered Soninke speakers widely; the language is prominent among West African communities in France, where Soninke speakers form one of the larger African migrant groups. It is written in the Latin alphabet under official orthographies in Mali, Senegal and Mauritania, and at times in Arabic script.

Prism Linguistics provides Soninke translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
