Tetum translation services in Basildon

Document translation is mostly handled by email: your file goes to a Tetum native translator, the translated version comes back to you in the format you need. So even though this page is about Basildon, location matters less for translation than it does for interpreting: we deliver to clients in Basildon the same way we deliver to clients anywhere else in the UK. The Basildon-specific bit is the local context: if your document is for a Basildon solicitor, a Basildon hospital or a Basildon university, we'll handle the formatting and the accompanying paperwork the way those bodies expect.

Certified Tetum translation

For most UK official use in Basildon (UKVI applications, court proceedings, university admissions, registry office work, Home Office cases), certified Tetum translation is what's required. We provide that as standard: the translated document plus a signed declaration of accuracy on Prism Linguistics letterhead, with the translator's name and our company stamp. Sworn or apostilled formats are available if your receiving body asks for those instead; just tell us at quote stage.

What we translate

How to order a Tetum translation in Basildon

Send us the document. We'll come back within an hour during UK office hours with a price and a delivery date. A Tetum native translator with the right subject background does the work; a second linguist reviews it; we deliver in the format you asked for. Standard turnaround for a short certificate is normally next working day; longer pieces are quoted with a realistic date.

English to Tetum translator (and the other way round) in Basildon

We work in both directions. Customer-facing copy (websites, brochures, ads, emails) is adapted rather than translated word for word, so it reads like it was written in Tetum in the first place. Legal, medical and technical documents stay faithful to the source, with formatting matched to the original.

Need a spoken-language interpreter in Basildon too?

About Basildon

Basildon is a commercial town in Essex with a strong base of business parks, retail and local government activity. That combination of enterprise and public services means language support is needed here regularly. Solicitors and legal firms ask us to translate documents and to interpret at client meetings, GP surgeries and clinics book interpreters for consultations, and council services, schools and colleges support families across a wide range of first languages. Local businesses, particularly those trading internationally, rely on us for translation that reads correctly. Prism Linguistics delivers certified document translation, face-to-face interpreting, and telephone and video interpreting in 300+ languages, giving each client the option that fits. Every job is completed by a qualified native-speaker linguist and then reviewed by a second linguist for accuracy, with all work handled under UK GDPR and confidentiality standards. We support organisations and individuals throughout Basildon and the surrounding area.

About the Tetum language

Tetum is an Austronesian language and, together with Portuguese, an official language of East Timor (Timor-Leste). It functions as the country's main lingua franca, spoken or understood by most of the population of about 1.3 million. Two main forms exist: Tetum Dili, the variety of the capital, which has absorbed a heavy layer of Portuguese vocabulary and serves as the national standard, and Tetum Terik, a more conservative rural form. The language is written in the Latin alphabet, with an official orthography maintained by the country's national linguistics institute. Tetum is also spoken across the border in Indonesian West Timor. During the Indonesian occupation the church's use of Tetum helped fix it as a marker of national identity, and it became official at independence in 2002.
