About Ludlow
Ludlow is a market town in south Shropshire, under Shropshire Council. It has a community hospital, Ludlow Hospital, and a sixth-form college, Ludlow College, but its own courts at the Guildhall closed in 2011. Legal work from the town is now dealt with elsewhere in the county, with the Crown Court at Shrewsbury handling the more serious cases and first hearings going through the magistrates' court there. Most of the interpreting and translation work in this area comes through those Shropshire courts and the health services. Ludlow sits close to the Welsh border, and Welsh place names are common across this stretch of country, so Welsh does feature in the wider area. About the Tobi language
Tobian is a Micronesian language of Tobi, one of the Southwest Islands of Palau, with most of its remaining speakers now living in the hamlet of Echang on Koror. It is severely endangered, with only a couple of dozen native speakers left and the language gradually merging with neighbouring Sonsorolese. There is no Tobian community in the UK, and requests would be exceptional; any work would most likely be personal or identity documents handled alongside English, which is widely used in Palau. Tobian is spoken by only around 150 people in total, a reminder of how small some of the world's languages have become.
