Tokelauan Language Services in the UK

About Our Tokelauan Services

Tokelauan is the Polynesian language of Tokelau, a New Zealand territory made up of three coral atolls, Atafu, Nukunonu and Fakaofo, with a resident population of only about 1,500. More Tokelauan speakers now live in New Zealand than in Tokelau itself, the result of decades of migration, and the language is counted among New Zealand's recognised Pacific community languages. Tokelauan is closely related to Samoan, which has long been used in Tokelau's churches and schooling, and also to Tuvaluan. It is written in the Latin alphabet with a small inventory of consonants, typical of Polynesian languages. Total speakers number only a few thousand, and both Tokelau's administration and community groups in New Zealand run programmes to keep the language alive, including an annual Tokelau Language Week.

Prism Linguistics provides Tokelauan translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
