What our Garifuna translators and interpreters cover for East Ham clients
Most East Ham bookings split between two needs: a document that has to be in another language for a UK body to accept it, or a conversation that has to happen with someone whose strongest language isn't English. The detail differs from job to job, but the principle is the same: the work has to be accurate enough that nobody on the receiving end has to guess what was meant.
- Legal: contracts, court papers, witness statements, instructed work for solicitors in East Ham.
- Healthcare: patient letters, clinical notes, consent forms for East Ham hospitals and clinics.
- Police and criminal: interviews, statements and disclosure material for East Ham police, probation and CPS work.
- Business: supplier contracts, board papers, customer-facing copy.
- Public sector, social care, education, housing and registry work.
Certified Garifuna document translation in East Ham
For UK official use (UKVI applications, court bundles, university admissions, registry office work), we provide certified Garifuna translation as standard: the translation plus a signed declaration of accuracy on Prism Linguistics letterhead, with the translator's name and our company stamp. Sworn or apostilled formats are available where a specific recipient requires them; tell us at quote stage.
Face-to-face, telephone and video interpreting in East Ham
For appointments in East Ham (a hospital outpatient, a solicitor conference, a contested hearing, a customer meeting), we send a Garifuna interpreter in person where it matters. For short or urgent conversations, telephone Garifuna interpreting connects in minutes. Video sits between the two: useful when parties are in different places but eye contact still matters.
See the face-to-face interpreting page for how we run an in-person booking, or the Garifuna interpreter in East Ham page for what we cover locally.
Court work and HMCTS
We supply Garifuna interpreters with court experience for HMCTS hearings, tribunals and legal consultations in East Ham. We match each court booking to a linguist whose credentials and vetting fit the setting; happy to send a CV before an appointment if it helps with your prep.

About the Garifuna language
Garifuna is an Arawakan language spoken along the Caribbean coast of Central America, chiefly in Honduras, Belize and Guatemala, with smaller communities in Nicaragua. It developed on the island of St Vincent from Arawak and Carib roots, later absorbing loanwords from French, Spanish and English, and reached the Central American mainland after the British deported the Garifuna people to Roatan in 1797. Estimates of speaker numbers vary, but around 100,000 people are thought to use the language today, written in the Latin alphabet. One unusual feature is that some vocabulary differs depending on whether the speaker is a man or a woman, a trace of its mixed Arawak and Carib ancestry. In 2001 UNESCO proclaimed the Garifuna language, dance and music a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
About East Ham
East Ham is a district in east London, one of the most multicultural parts of the capital, with a high street where many languages are heard side by side. That everyday mix means local organisations deal with language differences as a routine part of their work rather than an exception. Solicitors and legal firms, GP surgeries and health centres, council and local authority services, schools and colleges, and local businesses all need to communicate clearly with residents and clients from a wide range of backgrounds. Prism Linguistics provides certified document translation, face-to-face interpreting, and telephone and video interpreting in over 300 languages. Every assignment is handled by a qualified native-speaker linguist and then reviewed by a second linguist, so the finished work is accurate and reads naturally to the person receiving it. We apply UK GDPR and confidentiality standards to all of it, keeping personal and case-sensitive information protected. Prism covers East Ham and the surrounding parts of east London, with interpreters available in person or connected by phone and video when a booking needs to happen fast.
We provide professional Garifuna translators across major UK cities and towns, supporting businesses, courts, and public sector organisations nationwide.

Why Choose Us
Translations that actually get accepted
Most of our work is for UK bodies that have to accept the translation as part of a process: courts, the Home Office, the NHS, universities, councils. We format and certify so the receiving body doesn't send it back.
Native Garifuna linguists, second-linguist review
Translators only translate into their first language. Every job is reviewed by a second Garifuna linguist before delivery: names, dates and formatting checked against the original.
Responsive in UK working hours
Quotes back within an hour in UK office hours. For on-demand telephone interpreting we cover out-of-hours too; call the main number and you'll get connected.
