About the Gujarati language
Some 55 million people speak Gujarati, an Indo-Aryan language centred on the western Indian state of Gujarat, where it is the official language. It is one of India's 22 scheduled languages and was the mother tongue of Mahatma Gandhi. The language has its own script, related to Devanagari but written without the horizontal line running along the top of each word.
