What our Mam translators and interpreters cover for Poole clients

Most Poole bookings split between two needs: a document that has to be in another language for a UK body to accept it, or a conversation that has to happen with someone whose strongest language isn't English. The detail differs from job to job, but the principle is the same: the work has to be accurate enough that nobody on the receiving end has to guess what was meant.

  • Legal: contracts, court papers, witness statements, instructed work for solicitors in Poole.
  • Healthcare: patient letters, clinical notes, consent forms for Poole hospitals and clinics.
  • Police and criminal: interviews, statements and disclosure material for Poole police, probation and CPS work.
  • Business: supplier contracts, board papers, customer-facing copy.
  • Public sector, social care, education, housing and registry work.

Certified Mam document translation in Poole

For UK official use (UKVI applications, court bundles, university admissions, registry office work), we provide certified Mam translation as standard: the translation plus a signed declaration of accuracy on Prism Linguistics letterhead, with the translator's name and our company stamp. Sworn or apostilled formats are available where a specific recipient requires them; tell us at quote stage.

Face-to-face, telephone and video interpreting in Poole

For appointments in Poole (a hospital outpatient, a solicitor conference, a contested hearing, a customer meeting), we send a Mam interpreter in person where it matters. For short or urgent conversations, telephone Mam interpreting connects in minutes. Video sits between the two: useful when parties are in different places but eye contact still matters.

See the face-to-face interpreting page for how we run an in-person booking, or the Mam interpreter in Poole page for what we cover locally.

Court work and HMCTS

We supply Mam interpreters with court experience for HMCTS hearings, tribunals and legal consultations in Poole. We match each court booking to a linguist whose credentials and vetting fit the setting; happy to send a CV before an appointment if it helps with your prep.

How to book or hire a Mam translator or interpreter in Poole

About the Mam language

Mam is a Mayan language spoken by well over half a million people, chiefly in the western highlands of Guatemala, in the departments of Huehuetenango, San Marcos and Quetzaltenango, and by smaller communities across the border in Chiapas, Mexico. It is one of the four largest Mayan languages of Guatemala, alongside K'iche', Q'eqchi' and Kaqchikel, though these are separate languages rather than dialects of one another. Mam itself varies considerably from town to town, and speakers from distant municipalities can find each other hard to follow. It is written in the Latin alphabet using the official orthography adopted for Guatemala's Mayan languages. Migration has carried Mam northwards, and it is now among the more frequently encountered indigenous American languages in United States immigration settings.

About Poole

Poole sits on the Dorset coast and is run, with its neighbours, by the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole council. The work that reaches us here comes mainly through its hospital, its courts and the universities next door. Poole Hospital, part of University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, handles acute care for the town, and Bournemouth University and Arts University Bournemouth draw students and staff from beyond the UK. First hearings are dealt with at the local magistrates' court, with more serious cases sent to the Crown Court. All of that produces steady demand for interpreters and certified translations. Poole is not as mixed as some larger cities. Most day-to-day work is in the more common European languages that come with tourism, study and settlement along the south coast. Even so, a hospital clinic or a court list can turn on a language few people locally speak, from an African or Asian community with few speakers in the county. Those harder requests are the ones firms and courts bring to us.

Why Prism Linguistics

Why Choose Us

Translations that actually get accepted

Most of our work is for UK bodies that have to accept the translation as part of a process: courts, the Home Office, the NHS, universities, councils. We format and certify so the receiving body doesn't send it back.

Native Mam linguists, second-linguist review

Translators only translate into their first language. Every job is reviewed by a second Mam linguist before delivery: names, dates and formatting checked against the original.

Responsive in UK working hours

Quotes back within an hour in UK office hours. For on-demand telephone interpreting we cover out-of-hours too; call the main number and you'll get connected.
