About the Nahuatl language
Nahuatl is a Uto-Aztecan language of central Mexico and the language once spoken by the Aztecs, whose empire made it a lingua franca across Mesoamerica. Today it survives as a cluster of modern varieties spoken by well over a million people, chiefly in the states of Puebla, Veracruz, Hidalgo, Guerrero and Mexico.
