Waray Language Services in the UK

About Our Waray Services

Waray, sometimes called Waray-Waray, is the language of the Eastern Visayas in the Philippines, spoken on the island of Samar and in the eastern part of Leyte, including the city of Tacloban. It is an Austronesian language of the Bisayan group, related to Cebuano and Hiligaynon, with speaker estimates in the region of 3 to 4 million. Like other Philippine languages it is written in the Latin alphabet and carries a layer of Spanish loanwords from the colonial period. Waray is used in regional radio, church services and local literature, and since the mother-tongue schooling policy of 2012 it has served as a medium of instruction in the early primary years in its home region. Filipino and English remain the languages of wider communication.

Prism Linguistics provides Waray translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
