Welsh Language Services in the UK

About Our Welsh Services

Welsh is a Celtic language of the Brittonic branch, related to Cornish and Breton rather than to Irish or Scottish Gaelic. It is spoken mainly in Wales, where it has official status and where the 2021 census recorded around 538,000 people aged three and over able to speak it, roughly 18 per cent of the population; survey figures tend to run higher. Welsh-medium schooling is well established, all children in Wales study the language, and the Welsh Government has a stated aim of a million speakers by 2050. The heartlands of everyday spoken Welsh lie in the north and west, including Gwynedd and Ceredigion. Welsh is written in the Latin alphabet, counts digraphs such as ll and dd as single letters, and has a continuous literary tradition reaching back to early medieval poetry.

Prism Linguistics provides Welsh translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
