Carolinian Language Services in the UK

About Our Carolinian Services

Carolinian is an Austronesian language of the Micronesian branch, spoken mainly on Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands, a US commonwealth in the western Pacific. It holds official status there alongside Chamorro and English. The language arrived with settlers who migrated from atolls in the Caroline Islands during the nineteenth century, and it remains closely related to varieties still spoken on those atolls. Speaker numbers are small, generally put in the low thousands, and English dominates schooling and public life, so the language is considered vulnerable. It is written in the Latin alphabet, though spelling conventions were only standardised relatively recently. Local education and cultural programmes on Saipan work to keep Carolinian in use among younger generations.

Prism Linguistics provides Carolinian translation, interpreting and transcription across the UK in 300+ languages. Whether you need a certified document for the Home Office, a court interpreter, an NHS appointment or a business meeting, our vetted native-speaker linguists are ready to help.
