Gagauz is an Oghuz Turkic language, close to Turkish, spoken mainly in Gagauzia, an autonomous region of southern Moldova, with smaller communities in Ukraine, Russia and Turkey. There is no established Gagauz community in the UK, so requests come only occasionally and from individuals rather than any settled population. Where they arise, the work is usually civil and identity documents, birth and marriage certificates, and educational records prepared for the Home Office or UKVI or evaluated by UK ENIC for a course or a job application. Gagauz is spoken by around 150,000 people worldwide.
