Need a Swedish translator in Wembley? Prism Linguistics translates personbevis extracts from the Swedish population register, police record extracts, diplomas, contracts and technical files into English, and English documents into Swedish. Swedish Translation Services in Wembley
Sweden doesn't hand out birth or marriage certificates of the kind a UK registrar expects. Skatteverket, the Swedish Tax Agency, runs the population register, and its extract, the personbevis, stands in for both. The version Skatteverket points foreign authorities to (number 120, including all relationships) lists a person's name, personal identity number, date and place of birth, and their parents, spouse and children. When a UK form asks a Swede for a birth certificate, this is what turns up.
Skatteverket will issue that one extract in English. It's the only personbevis it offers in English, though, so any other extract is in Swedish, and many people simply have a Swedish copy already. If it's the English 120 extract, the receiving body may well take it as it is, and we'll say so rather than sell you a translation.
Beyond that, our Swedish translation services in Wembley split between households and businesses: Swedes settled here under the EU Settlement Scheme, relatives joining them and nurses or teachers applying for visas on one side, British companies with Swedish buyers or a Swedish parent on the other.
English to Swedish Translator (and Swedish to English)
Translation into Swedish still matters, even though most Swedes read English well, because Sweden's Language Act makes Swedish the language of its courts and public authorities. Papers a UK firm files with a Swedish court or agency are normally expected in Swedish.
English to Swedish translation also covers what Swedish customers and staff actually use: manuals, service agreements, tender responses, HR policies for a subsidiary. Native Swedish speakers write it. Swedish to English serves caseworkers, lenders and solicitors reading a Swedish record, and goes to native English speakers who read Swedish fluently.
Certified Swedish Translation for UKVI, Courts and Universities
Prism ends each certified Swedish translation with a signed, stamped and dated declaration on its letterhead, confirming that the English accurately reflects the Swedish original. That matches what GOV.UK asks of a translation sent with a visa application, and UK universities, HM Passport Office, HMCTS, UKVI and the Home Office all accept it.
If you're coming to work in a school, a care home or the NHS on a Skilled Worker visa, the Home Office wants a criminal record certificate from each country you've lived in for long enough (the test depends on your age), with a certified translation unless it's in English or Welsh. Sweden's police will issue an extract for use abroad in English, but they state that any convictions listed on it are not translated. A clean extract in English may need nothing from us; one with entries does.
Registrars work the same way. When you give notice to marry, a Swedish document has to come with an English translation, and anyone whose earlier marriage ended in a divorce outside the UK must bring proof of it. For UK ENIC, Swedish isn't covered by the Translation Waiver Service, so a Swedish qualification goes in with a certified translation. Sweden has its own authorised translators, appointed by Kammarkollegiet; the UK relies on certification instead. Apostilles are issued by a notary public in Sweden and arranged by you or your solicitor, not us, though we translate documents that already carry one.
Swedish Documents We Translate
- Swedish birth certificate translation, which in practice means the personbevis
- Swedish marriage certificate translation: extracts showing civil status, plus divorce rulings from a tingsrätt (the Swedish district court)
- immigration documents, including the utdrag ur belastningsregistret, Sweden's criminal records extract
- degree certificates, examensbevis from before 2003 and grade transcripts
- passports and Swedish national identity cards
- legal documents: articles of association, board minutes, powers of attorney, Bolagsverket registration certificates, wills and estate inventories
- medical records, discharge summaries and vaccination histories
Since 2003, every degree certificate from a Swedish state university has come with a Diploma Supplement written in English, and many universities print the certificate in both languages. Check yours before you order. Older degrees had no supplement, and those are the ones we're usually asked to translate.
Swedish Legal, Medical and Business Translation
Swedish legal translation for UK clients tends to come from two directions. Companies send shareholder agreements, supply contracts and board resolutions before a deal or an audit. Families send probate papers: when someone dies with assets in Sweden, an estate inventory, the bouppteckning, is drawn up and registered with Skatteverket, and a UK solicitor dealing with the English side of the estate will want it in English. See our legal translation services.
Swedish medical translation runs both ways too. Patients moving here bring hospital notes for a new GP, and NHS services sometimes need a discharge letter or a consent form in Swedish for an older patient (medical translation services). For a UK brand launching in Sweden, our website translation team writes Swedish pages for Swedish shoppers.
Professional Swedish Translators: Who Does the Work
No Swedish job leaves us with one pair of eyes on it: a translator writes it, then a colleague who also reads Swedish goes over it against the original, sentence by sentence. An engineering manual for a Swedish distributor needs a translator who knows the terminology, while a personbevis follows a fixed layout and rarely calls for a specialist. Swedish terms with no clean English equivalent, personnummer for instance, are kept in the original with a short gloss so nothing is quietly lost.
It's fair to ask any professional Swedish translator about ITI or CIOL membership, ours included.

How to Order a Swedish Translation in Wembley
- Photograph or scan the document. All pages, including any stamp on the last one. Keep the originals; a clear copy is all we work from.
- Tell us where it's going. The Home Office, a register office, UK ENIC, a court, a Swedish customer. Copy the names exactly as the passport's photo page prints them, letters with rings and dots included.
- Approve the quote. One linguist translates and another reviews. Your certified PDF comes by email, and if the office needs paper, a printed copy follows by tracked post.

About Wembley
Wembley, in north west London, is best known for its major venues, but it is also a densely populated residential area with communities from right across the world. Alongside the crowds and events, everyday services here generate steady demand for interpreting and translation. Council and local authority teams deal with residents from many backgrounds, GP surgeries and clinics book appointments for patients with limited English, and schools and colleges support pupils and families who need language help. Local solicitors and legal firms rely on interpreters for immigration and family matters, and local businesses need documents translated for customers and suppliers. Prism Linguistics meets all of this with certified document translation, face-to-face interpreting, and telephone and video interpreting in more than 300 languages. Each assignment is handled by a qualified native-speaker linguist and independently checked by a second linguist before it goes out, keeping quality consistent. We treat all work as confidential and comply fully with UK GDPR. From the area around the stadium to the wider residential streets, we cover organisations throughout Wembley.

Swedish Translator Wembley FAQs
How much does Swedish translation cost in Wembley?
A personbevis or similar one-page Swedish record is priced from about £35 per page, certification included. Contracts and manuals are charged by the word, and we normally send a fixed price the same hour if you write during office hours.
Can you certify a Swedish translation for UKVI or the Home Office?
Certified Swedish translations from Prism, whether of a personbevis or a police record, close with a dated declaration of accuracy, signed and stamped on Prism letterhead. That is the form UKVI and the Home Office accept.
How quickly can you translate a Swedish document?
Most Swedish certificates, a personbevis or a police extract for example, take one to two working days including certification. A short document can sometimes be turned round the same day, depending on capacity, and big projects are given a date when quoted.
Is a Swedish personbevis the same as a birth certificate?
Sweden does not issue traditional birth certificates, and Skatteverket treats its population register extract, the personbevis, as the equivalent. We translate it into English with a certificate of accuracy so a UK office can read the birth details and family relationships it records.
Do you translate English to Swedish as well as Swedish to English?
Yes, Prism translates Swedish in both directions. English to Swedish work is written by native Swedish speakers, Swedish to English by native speakers of English who read Swedish fluently, and a second linguist reviews every translation before it is sent.
Is there a Swedish translator near me in Wembley?
Yes, though not in a local office: our Swedish translators work remotely for clients in Wembley. Email your scans or use the quote form, receive the certified version as a PDF, and ask for a posted copy if paper is needed.

About the Swedish Language
Written Swedish runs left to right in the Latin alphabet, with three extra letters placed after z: a with a ring, then a and o with two dots each. Those letters must survive in names, so Åsa Ström stays Åsa Ström, not Asa Strom. The two coded lines along the bottom of a passport photo page can hold only A to Z, so we follow the name printed above them. Double surnames have been allowed since July 2017, with or without a hyphen at the holder's choice, which is why Ekström Holm and Ekström-Holm are not interchangeable on a certified translation. Dates cause the most trouble. Swedish records usually put the year first, so 2026-03-04 is 4 March, and a personal identity number opens with the holder's birth date in six digits, its hyphen switching to a plus sign in the year they turn 100.
