What our Luo translators and interpreters cover for Dover clients

Most Dover bookings split between two needs: a document that has to be in another language for a UK body to accept it, or a conversation that has to happen with someone whose strongest language isn't English. The detail differs from job to job, but the principle is the same: the work has to be accurate enough that nobody on the receiving end has to guess what was meant.

  • Legal: contracts, court papers, witness statements, instructed work for solicitors in Dover.
  • Healthcare: patient letters, clinical notes, consent forms for Dover hospitals and clinics.
  • Police and criminal: interviews, statements and disclosure material for Dover police, probation and CPS work.
  • Business: supplier contracts, board papers, customer-facing copy.
  • Public sector, social care, education, housing and registry work.

Certified Luo document translation in Dover

For UK official use (UKVI applications, court bundles, university admissions, registry office work), we provide certified Luo translation as standard: the translation plus a signed declaration of accuracy on Prism Linguistics letterhead, with the translator's name and our company stamp. Sworn or apostilled formats are available where a specific recipient requires them; tell us at quote stage.

Face-to-face, telephone and video interpreting in Dover

For appointments in Dover (a hospital outpatient, a solicitor conference, a contested hearing, a customer meeting), we send a Luo interpreter in person where it matters. For short or urgent conversations, telephone Luo interpreting connects in minutes. Video sits between the two: useful when parties are in different places but eye contact still matters.

See the face-to-face interpreting page for how we run an in-person booking, or the Luo interpreter in Dover page for what we cover locally.

Court work and HMCTS

We supply Luo interpreters with court experience for HMCTS hearings, tribunals and legal consultations in Dover. We match each court booking to a linguist whose credentials and vetting fit the setting; happy to send a CV before an appointment if it helps with your prep.

How to book or hire a Luo translator or interpreter in Dover

About the Luo language

Dholuo, commonly called Luo, is a Western Nilotic language spoken around the eastern shore of Lake Victoria, chiefly in western Kenya around Kisumu and in adjoining parts of northern Tanzania. Estimates suggest four to five million speakers, making it one of Kenya's largest languages. It belongs to a wider cluster of Luo languages stretching north through Uganda and South Sudan, which includes Acholi and Lango, though these are separate languages rather than dialects of Dholuo. The language is tonal, uses the Latin alphabet, and unlike its Bantu neighbours does not build words around noun-class prefixes, a difference that makes it stand out sharply in the region. Luo speakers in Kenya are typically also fluent in Swahili and English, the country's official languages, and much daily life moves between all three.

About Dover

Dover sits on the Kent coast and is the administrative centre of the Dover District. As the country's busiest ferry port and a long-standing arrival point from the Continent, it shapes the language work that reaches us here. Dover has no Crown Court of its own, so serious cases go to Canterbury, while local matters go through the magistrates' court. Buckland Hospital, part of the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, serves the town, and further education comes through the local technical college rather than a university. The port, hospital and immigration work create a steady need for interpreters and certified translations. Because so much passes through Dover, the languages asked for are wide-ranging, and Channel crossings and Home Office work bring requests for Arabic, Kurdish, Pashto, Dari and Albanian. Dover is not a settled-community town like the cities, but its range is unusually broad, and we are often called on for the rarer languages a single hearing or interview can hinge on, the requests other agencies cannot fill.

Why Prism Linguistics

Why Choose Us

Translations that actually get accepted

Most of our work is for UK bodies that have to accept the translation as part of a process: courts, the Home Office, the NHS, universities, councils. We format and certify so the receiving body doesn't send it back.

Native Luo linguists, second-linguist review

Translators only translate into their first language. Every job is reviewed by a second Luo linguist before delivery: names, dates and formatting checked against the original.

Responsive in UK working hours

Quotes back within an hour in UK office hours. For on-demand telephone interpreting we cover out-of-hours too; call the main number and you'll get connected.
