Dutch Translation Services in Daventry

The Dutch chamber of commerce, the KVK, sells an English version of its business register extract, and clients reasonably ask why they need a translator at all. The answer is in the KVK's own small print. It leaves the business description untranslated, along with extensive restrictions on a power of attorney, rulings by foreign judges and some officials' job titles. Those are often the very lines a UK bank, auditor or solicitor wants to read, so much of our Dutch translation services work in Daventry starts with a company file.

Family paperwork is the other half. Many Dutch and Belgian citizens who were living here by the end of 2020 hold EU Settlement Scheme status, and relatives joining them prove the link with a birth, marriage or civil partnership certificate, which the Home Office can ask to see in certified English. Professionals add their own pile. A Dutch or Belgian nurse, teacher or social worker applying for a Skilled Worker visa usually needs a police certificate from the countries they've lived in, translated and certified if it isn't in English or Welsh.

English to Dutch Translator (and Dutch to English)

Dutch to English is the steadier direction, because a caseworker, registrar, lender or tribunal has to understand what a Dutch municipality, notary or court has written. English to Dutch translation mostly comes from UK firms selling into the Netherlands and Belgium: supply contracts, product documentation, terms of sale, staff policies. Dutch authorities publish their tenders on TenderNed, whose application runs only in Dutch, so a British supplier often needs the tender documents in English before deciding whether to bid.

Which readers, though? The Netherlands and Flanders share one standard written Dutch, but vocabulary shifts at the border. A Flemish reader carries a gsm; in the Netherlands it's a mobiel. Belgian firms quote a KBO enterprise number, not a KVK number, and a template that mixes the two looks careless to both. Tell us where your readers are. Native Dutch speakers write the English to Dutch work, and native English speakers who read Dutch fluently do the reverse.

Certified Dutch Translation for UKVI, Courts and Universities

A certified Dutch translation from Prism pairs the English version with an accuracy statement on Prism letterhead that we sign, stamp and date, listing how to contact us. Paragraph 39B of the Immigration Rules sets out what UKVI looks for: the original-language document beside a complete translation that can be independently verified, dated, confirming accuracy, naming and signed by the translator or a company official, with contact details attached. Applications to extend or settle (leave to remain, or indefinite leave) also ask for certification by a qualified translator whose credentials are given, so flag it if that's you. Our certified translations are accepted by HM Passport Office, HMCTS, UK universities, the Home Office and UKVI.

Diplomas catch people out. UK ENIC lets certain languages skip translation for a Statement of Comparability through its Translation Waiver Service, but Dutch isn't on that list, so a Dutch or Belgian diploma and its grade list go in with a certified translation from a professional translator. Register offices are similar: when you give notice of marriage, any document not in English needs a translation, and that includes a Belgian or Dutch divorce if either of you was married before.

The UK doesn't use sworn translators at all; certification is the British answer. The Netherlands keeps a register of sworn translators, Belgium a national one, and a Dutch notary or Belgian court may accept nothing else for English papers. Ask them first. Getting an apostille is a job for you or your solicitor, and documents that already bear one we translate like any other.

Dutch Documents We Translate

Dutch birth extracts come in two forms, a domestic one in Dutch and an international one meant for authorities abroad, so tell us which you're holding. For a British passport application, HM Passport Office treats a Dutch birth certificate issued more than a year after the birth as needing a document from the Personal Records Database to confirm when the birth was registered. A BRP extract lists previous addresses or nationality only if you ask the municipality to include them.

Dutch Legal, Medical and Business Translation

Dutch legal translation leans commercial. A Dutch BV opening a UK establishment files a certified copy of its constitution at Companies House, with its latest accounts where Dutch law requires them, and anything not in English needs a certified English version, authenticated by a director or the company secretary. We write the translation; they sign it. Legal forms stay as they are, glossed briefly: a BV is not quite a UK limited company, and a stichting is not a charity. More on our legal translation services page.

Dutch medical translation usually means a GP record or hospital letters for a new UK practice, and sometimes NHS letters going out in Dutch: see medical translation services. Websites aimed at both the Netherlands and Flanders may need two versions (website translation).

Professional Dutch Translators: Who Does the Work

Every Dutch translation passes through two linguists: one translates, and a second checks the work against the source before it leaves us. Subject decides who. A jaarrekening (annual accounts) goes to a translator comfortable with Dutch reporting terms, and a tender for civil works to someone who reads engineering specifications without flinching. A VOG is short and follows a set form, so any of our Dutch translators can take it.

Is a translator a member of the ITI or CIOL? That's a fair thing to ask anyone you hire, us included.

How Much Does Dutch Translation Cost in Daventry?

Certified translation of a Dutch certificate costs from about £35 per page. Annual accounts, contracts and tender packs are charged per word instead. Upload scans with the quote form; during UK office hours a fixed price usually follows inside an hour. The translation cost page sets out how our prices are built.

How Long Does a Dutch Translation Take?

Translating and certifying a short Dutch certificate usually takes one to two working days. Our same-day translation service can sometimes help with short documents, subject to capacity. The buyer sets a tender deadline, not us, so send a Dutch tender pack early and agree a delivery date with the quote.

How to Order a Dutch Translation in Daventry

  1. Scan everything. Every page, the back of each certificate, and any annex a contract or KVK extract refers to. A phone photo taken flat in good light will do, and your originals stay with you.
  2. Say who will read it. UKVI, a register office, Companies House, a UK lender, or a buyer in Flanders. Give us the names exactly as the passport shows them, particles and all.
  3. Accept the fixed quote. One linguist translates and another checks. The certified PDF is emailed to you, and a tracked printed copy follows where paper is required.

Dutch Translator Daventry FAQs

How much does Dutch translation cost in Daventry?

Prices for a certified Dutch certificate begin at about £35 per page; accounts, contracts and tenders go by word count. Scans sent in office hours normally get a fixed figure back within sixty minutes.

Can you certify a Dutch translation for UKVI or the Home Office?

Certifying Dutch translations for UKVI and the Home Office is everyday work for us. Each one carries a dated statement that it is accurate, on our letterhead with a signature, stamp and contact details, in line with the translation requirements in the Immigration Rules.

How quickly can you translate a Dutch document?

A Dutch birth certificate, BRP extract or VOG usually takes one to two working days including certification. Same-day is sometimes possible for a short document if we have capacity, and long accounts or tender packs get a date in the quote.

Do you translate English to Dutch as well as Dutch to English?

Yes, both ways. Native Dutch speakers translate English to Dutch, written for readers in the Netherlands or in Flanders as you choose, and native English speakers translate Dutch to English, with a second linguist checking every job.

Is there a Dutch translator near me in Daventry?

Our Dutch translators work for clients in Daventry without a local office. Email or upload your scans, a certified PDF is returned to you, and we post a tracked hard copy when the receiving body asks for paper.

How will my surname appear if it starts with van or de?

Exactly as your passport prints it, with the particle in the same place and the same capitals. Dutch records hold van or de in a separate field and Belgian ones treat it as part of the surname, so we follow the passport and add a short note if a certificate shows the name differently.

About the Dutch Language

Written Dutch uses the Latin alphabet, left to right, with one official spelling for the Netherlands and Flanders. Month names take no capital, dates run day first, and the pair ij is capitalised as a unit, as in IJmuiden. Surname particles cause the most trouble. Dutch databases keep van, de or van der in a separate field and Dutch alphabetical lists ignore them, so de Vries files under V; Belgian names keep their own spelling and sort on the whole name, which makes De Smet and Desmet two different families. UK forms with one surname box can lose it. Forenames differ too: a Belgian passport prints only the first two in full, and a Dutch passport may add a spouse's surname on a second line, so a birth certificate often carries more name than the passport.
